DOG Contests at the 2003 Bay to Barkers Event

In Berkeley, California,

July 13, 2003.

Many events for dog owners and enthusiasts feature contests in which dog owners and their dogs compete for prizes.  There are dozens of such contests -- creative ways for owners to show off what their dogs can do -- and they are held at county fairs, obedience trials at dog shows, and other events.

Here are examples of contests from the Bay to Barkers event sponsored by the East Bay Humane Society in Berkeley, California.  The first event was held in 1999 to celebrate the opening of a new park with dog trails at the Berkeley Marina.  Now the event is in its 5th year and is bigger than ever.

Similar contests are planned for the Do You Look Like Your Dog TV game/reality show -- though with people who look like their dogs participating in such events along with their dogs.

Musical Chairs: the object is to get your dog to stay outside the circle; then go for a chair and hold it if your dog stays there.  But if he moves, you have to get up and get him to stay outside the circle again.   Meanwhile, a chair is removed each round, and when the music stops, the owner without a chair is eliminated.

 Hold that dog.

Get that chair.

Still in the game.
